NORTH AND SOUTH ISLAND : FIGURES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The following comparative statement, showing the number of beasts killed, the amount of cheese and butter manufactured, and other items as specified below, was laid before the House of -Representatives on Saturday : (1.) Number of sheep and cattle killed at freezing works from Ist August, 1916, to 31st July, 1917: South Island, 2,263,497 601b carcases,- North Island, 4,079,443 601b carcases. (2.) Quantity of cheese and butter manufactured" for export from Ist August- to 31st July, 1917: South Is--49,094 boxes of butter, 132,518 crates of cheese; North Island, 906,944 butter, 564,233 cheese. (3.) Amount of meat shipped from Ist August, 1916, to 31st July, 1917: South Island, 1.584,936 601b carcases ■ North Mand, 3,237,288 601b carcases. (4.) Quantity of butter and cheese shipped from Ist August, 1916, to 31st Julv, 1917: —South Island, 44,514 boxes of "butter, 115,384 crates of cheese; North. Island, 735,546 butter, 477,404 cheese. . ' (5.) Shipping space alloted in each Island from 3slt Julv, 1917. to date: Meat: South Island, 72,000 601b carcases; North Island 656,000 601b carcases/ Dairy produce: South Island, 1200 boxes of butter, 18,765 crates * c cheese; North Island, 69,400 butter, 56,035 cheese.
