j A mass meeting called to . protest against the inadequate allowances for soldiers' dependants, wa!s held last night and w'as largely The Second Division League's proposals' were ex- - plained by Mr A. E. Lawrence, chair man of the local executive, and the •Rev.,Cyril'Tocker. Mr E. P. Lee, M.P. , attended ,and discussed the matter of pensions ajnd. .allowances, and, while ( supporting many of the league's de'mands, contended that the Government I was faced with financial difficulties. A nlotion was carried unanimously, that the meeting -expresses its dissatisfaction with the inadequate scale of allowances for soldier's dependants, and in their interests 'urges cabinet to reconsider the question. Speakers voiced strong condemnation of the Prime Minister's statements that Second Division men were not playing . the. game especially as the men were asking , nothing for themselves, but merely demanded adequate allowances for their dependents.
