SETTLEMENT ON THE LAND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, This iDay. Mr Talbot asked the Minister of Lands last evening whether he would take into his serious consideration the advisability of taking over farms from reservist leaving f.or the front, who were willing to sell and > who cannot make arrangements for the carrying on of holdings in their absence, provided that the terms and other conditions are favourable for settlement by discharged soldiers. . Mr Massey replied that the Land Purchase Board already has power jfco purchase the freehold property of any member Expeditionary -Force, should it consider the land suitable for subdivision or settlement . and the price reasonable. In addition, the -amendment of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, which will be introduced shortly, "will grant further facilities to enable all classes of holdings to be acquired for discharged &oldiers.
