When the Auckland-Rotorua express was passing over the Norton road level crossing at Frankton Junction this af- j ternoon it dashed into a lorry driven by | M. J. Carroll, who was engaged in j carting gravel in connection with the al- j terations to the :New Zealand Dairy Association's factory near by. Carroll had o- marvellous escape from instant death. Tlie engine struck the two horses attached to the lorry, killing them instantly, and wrecking a portion of the front of the lorry. Notwithstanding the impact, Carroll did not lose his seat, and with the exception of losing some skin practically escaped injury of any sort. He did not notice the approaching train i until too late. \
