ITALIAN WAR
RESOLUTE OFFENSIVE CROSSING OF THE ISONZO FORCED. COUNTER-ATTACKS FAIL. (AnatraJUn *nd N.Z. Cabls Association, i *nd Reuter.) (Admiralty per Wifeless Press.) LONDON, May 16. An Italian official message says:— The vigorous offensive on-the Julian front is resolutely continued. Our infantry established themselves on the heights on the eastern bank of the I'sonzo northward of Gorz, which had been transformed into a formidable fortified position. One of the left wings columns forced a. passage of the river and captured i Rombres village. _ We captured in the centre heights north-east of Plava. We stormed the village of Zagora and Meagomild, and earned the crests of Monte Cucco and Monte Vodice. We conquered eastward of Gorz strongly fortified heights northward of Tivoli. Insistent counter-attacks were beaten off. We captured 3375 prisoners, besides a mountain battery and much war material.
