COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the County Council was held in the Council Chambers on Saturday, the 31st March. Present : Crs. Jos. BroWn (chairman), R. Winn, G. Thomson, A. Monahau, F. C. Page, J. Badcock, and A. Rotcers. OVERSEER'S REPORT." Arising out of the report it was- resolved (Crs. Badccck and Win), that the overseer's action in preventing a carter Jrom carting over the asphalting be confirmed. Transfers of Grants.—Resolved (the chairman and Cr. Badcock), that the following transfers of grants be applied for: Matiri river road (West bank) 94, £8 7s, to Matiri river bridge; f von,. River Plain road to Glencairn road. Resolved, that applications be made for expenditure of the following moneys : —Blackwater Block road, £100; M'aruia S. road, £150; Maruia Valley road, metalling, £llO. Resolved, that property owners in Waller-street be notified that they must move their fences back on the right line. The overseer's report was then adopted. The chairman reported having received tenders since last meeting as follow :

—Thirty-seven chains formation. etc.. Horse Terrace to Hunter's road, A. McDowell £53 lis Cd, E. H. Hargreaves JBSI 10s Od j E. Hargreaves' tender was accepted. The chairman's action was confirmed. ' D. Blackadder wrote asking to be allowed to retain the gate standing for some time past on the Murchison Hot Springs road. Permission granted. J. Gould wrote re ned for corduroy required on Glencairn road. The overseer reported having made an offer to the Gould Bros., but had received do reply. Left iu the hands of overseer. .Mr James Colvin, M.P., forwarded a telegram from. Minister of Lands re grass seed. Resolved (Or Win and chairman), that a meeting of the Council be held on the 7th April at Ip.m., ijf favourable advice is received from the Minister. The Public Works Department wrote re roads. Re Bastin and Elliott's road, the clerk to reply stating that the Council cannot grant £ for £, as it is an unformed road.. The Post and Telegraph Department forwarded the Warwick Junction Telephone Office bond cancelled, the Council's guarantee having expired. National Efficiency.—Resolved, that a public meting be called for 7.30 p.m. on Satin-day, April 7th, to discuss the formation of a local Board.

Resolved (Crs. and Monahau), that a letter be sent to the Minister' of Defence, urging that appelants coming before the Military Service Board be not asked searching questions • regarding their financial position, in open Court. A letter was received from the Hon. Sir James Allen re Anzac Day. The chairman suggested that reception to local returned .soldiers be arranged for that day if possible. | It was resolved that this be done. It was also resolved that a letter be sent to the Minister of Internal Affairs, expressing sympathy with the Anzacs in their desire to have the anniversaryheld on the correct date. The Nelson Education Board wrote re ferrying Four River Plain children across the Buller river to Fern Flat school, and also re settlers' application Eor a school at Maruia. ' The Waipu County Council wrote suggesting that stops be taken to alter the present system of Government grants for road woi'k, etc. No action taken. From secretary Recruiting Board re rolls of First and Second Division. Mr W. W. Snodgrass, acting Hon, Secretary, wrote re election of a representative on the Advisory Board of the Nelson S. and W. Soldiers' Fund. It was resolvod that the matter be brought before -the public meeting on the 7th inst. Cr. Badcock moved that the overhang- [ ing scrub be cut off the Matiri road.— j The overseer to attend to it. j Cr. Page referred to a small creek near Mr Crowe's house, and that Mr Crowe wished to divert it.—lt was resolved that he be authorised to divert the creek. Cr. Page also referred to the Braeburn, Lake Rotoroa, Gowan road, and suggested that the Public Works Department bo urged to keep the men now working on the Government road on this road to Braebirrn.—Resolved that a letter be sent to that effect. ! Resolved (Crs. Rogers and Win), that j application be made for a grant for a I foot suspension bridge over the Glenroy river to enable children to get to school. Cr. Win referred to the fords in the Buller river on the Howard road.—Overseer Lo atte.'.id to it. Resolved (Crs.
