RED CROSS
The monthly meeting of the Nelson Centre, Ked Cross, was held at Hallene.teins' rooms yesterday afternoon, Mrs W. Lock presiding. Accounts for material were passed amounting to £9 7s Bd. The hon. secretary of the New . Zea- , land War Contingent Association, London, wrote, acknowledging' receipt ' of. advice of 19 cases of Red. Cross, goods "shipped from Nelson on November 13th last. \ Sir Robert Hudson, chairman, of the , Joint Finance Committee, London, in acknowledging, receipt of sums q£ £3OO and £2OO, added: "I beg to'He allowed once again to assure you of our. deep gratitude for the valuable and continued assistance given by the Nelson (N.Z.) JSed Cross Fund to the joint societies in their work for. the. sick and wound* ed." ■■■■:■ -■•«■ - Reference was made to the work done for the fund by the late Miss Bruce Bell, who was attached to the Wakefield branch, and' it was resolved to record an appreciation on the minutes of the action..oftne'lion. secretary in for-warding-i. letter of condolence to the relatives of Miss Bell. ' ' A report was received from Awa, (Dovedale), stating that the worker* a fctached to that guild, which has recently been formed as part of the Dovedale branch, consist of Mesdanies ;H. Tunnicliffe, Alan Thorn, J. W, Win. K J: Win, J* Crichton, Win, senr., and Parkinson (hon. secretary), Misse* ■Hawkes," L. Win, and. M. Crichton. Mr» ■ Win, who is 87 years of age, has the' honour of being the oldest worker in the. ■ Dovedale district. The secretary stated that the Dove . dale branch was doing very consistent work for the fund, the monthly remittance being always a substantial one. AH the branches, indeed, were keeping np wonderfully well, the £42 contributed by Murchison last month being a record for that branch for ordinary monthly collections, special efforts excluded. The sum of £SOO was cabled to Lort don during the month.
