I ..hat is probably the first case of the kind heard in the Dominion was before the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Eric Hardy was charged that without the consent of the Minister of Internal Alffairs and while a reservist he did change his name to Gaythorn. Accused pleaded guilty. The facts, as stated by the police, were that accused was drawn in the ballot and failed to appear. A warrant for his arrest was issued. He was apprehended locally, and when asked his name, said it wa's Gaythorn. He showed a telegram containing that name. He later admitted that his correct name was Hardy. j The Magistrate s aid the proper course was to. imprison accused, so that-the military could call on him at any time. [Accused"'-was sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
