The Nelson Diocesan Gazette announces that the Rev. W. W. Bedwell has been appointed locum teneus in the Sounds parochial district.

A Melbourne Press cabie reports the death of Mr Edward Fricker, editor of the Australasian.
Mr George Macrnahon has been nominated for a seat on the Nelson Harbour Board as one of the Waimea representatives of the Board. His nominators were Messrs T. Hewetson and J. Corder.
Mr R. E. \Lechner, ppstmaster at Reefton, l-etired on -superannuation on Saturday after 42 years' service, 33 of which were in the Ash burton office, says the Westport .News. Mr and Mrs Lechner and family are removing to Nelson. Mr A. J. Muller, of Patea, is mentioned as the probable successor to the Reefton postmastership.
At the annual meeting of the Public Service Association last evening-, a' presentation of a travelling rug was made to Mr J. Fitzgerald, the retiring chairman. Mr A. H. Houhsell, the chair-man-elect, in making the presentation, spoke in warm appreciation of 'Mr Fitzgerald's services during the past three years, his remarks being supplemented by Mr J. :E. Allen in equally warm terms. The presentation was suitably acknowledged by the recipient.
At the -usual fortnightly meeting- of the Loyal Nelson Lodge. M.U., 1.0.0. F. last evening, the Permanent Secretary, Corporal W. L. Hesseltine, who is at present in Nelson, was presented with a handsome wallet as -a mark of apprecia tion of his services to the ILodge. The presentation wa s made by the N."G.,D.P.G.M. Bro. A. Cross, and a number oi other members also expressed their good wishes to Bro. H'esseltine, who suitably replied, and was accorded the honours of the Order.
Something over 12 months ago Mr H. G. Hill came to Nelson on the invitation of leading growers for the purpose of organisation :work in connection 'with, the fruit industry. As the result of his ef- : forts, described by many as almost superhuman, he succeeded in bringing a large number of growers to a common basis of thought regarding actual steos to be taken in. tae Organization, or the industrv and the formation of the Nelson District 'Fruitpackers, Ltd., was the direct outcome of his efforts. It is recognised on all sides that Mr Hill's tireless energy, arid organising ability have been very largely ■ responsible for the progress made. Unfortunately, however, ill-health has overtaken Mr Hill, and he has now resigned the general managership of the company. In accepting his resignation, the directors of the company passed the following resolution, which speaks for itself : —"That this meeting of directors of the Nelson District Fruitpackers, Ltd., acknowledges receipt of the resignation of Mr H. G. Hill as general manager of the company on account of continued ill-health, and accept same with regret. It is our desire to place On record our appreciation of the excellent services he lias rendered organising the fruit industry in this district, the formation and flotation of the company and its management.'
