The Golden .'Bay Times understands that Dr. Woodward, of Takaka, has been accepted for service in the New Zealand Medical Corps, an! will be going into camp at an eariy date. News 'has been received at Takaka that Private Herbert Winter, third son of Mr George Winter, senr., Motupipi ■road, who enlisted with, the 17th. Reinforcements, had passed away at Sling Camp, Salisbury, England. Advice has been received froiru London reporting the death of Captain Christopher Maling, N.Z.C., in London on December 18th last. Deceased took an active part in the Maori war-, and was awarded the New Zealand Cross for valour. The -Cross was presented to him at. a parade of the Nelson Volunteers in the Botanical Reserve in 1877.
