A London Press cable reports the death of Mr J. W. Waterhouse, a noted painter. Private A. E. Tboma?on, son of Mrs Thouiason, of Wai-iti, has 'been re-ad-mitted to Walton-on-Thamcs Ho-pital, suffering from an old shrapnel wound in the left shoulder. • Mrs Stone was advised by cable last night that her husband (Lieutenant Stone) is in- the New Zealand General Hospital at- Codfordi (England) suffering from dysentery. A Press Association telegram states that Captain J. A. Hay ward, Deputy - Harbourmaster at Wellington, died last nielii in a private hospital a few days after an operation, aged 47. The Golden .'Bay Times understands that Dr. Woodward, of Takaka, has been accepted for service in the New Zealand Medical Corps, an! will be going into camp at an eariy date. News 'has been received at Takaka that Private Herbert Winter, third son of Mr George Winter, senr., Motupipi ■road, who enlisted with, the 17th. Reinforcements, had passed away at Sling Camp, Salisbury, England. Advice has been received froiru London reporting the death of Captain Christopher Maling, N.Z.C., in London on December 18th last. Deceased took an active part in the Maori war-, and was awarded the New Zealand Cross for valour. The -Cross was presented to him at. a parade of the Nelson Volunteers in the Botanical Reserve in 1877.
