RETURNED SOLDIER TAKES UP TEACHINGIn the recently issued list of pupils who have succeeded in passing the. intermediate examinations and* qualifying for senior free places in secondary schools appears the name of iMr Arnold Sharp, of Rangiora. Mr Arnold Sharp is a returned Anzac, who was so severelywpunded m a bomb explosion as.to bo incapable of taking up his original employment as foreman carpenter. <>stip>r about for a means;of livelihood, he <ie cided to tvv leaching. He had noveT done much more than the work required 4o pass the Sixth Standard, and had left «chool nearly ten years before. On application to the Education Department, Air Sharp was told that he would bo received into the Normal Training; College as scon as he could pass the intermediate examination, which, is the test o r f two years' satisfactory work at a secondary school. _ ■ The Rangiora High School Board being interested in the case.xfiered Mr Sharp iree tuition at the school, and last June, only five months before the, examination, the returned soldier, began : taking a full course of work, including several subjects, such as French and agriculture, of which he had not: then even the rudimentary knowledge. The ■ result of Jhe tuition he received and the fine effort he put forth is now shown. A. -minimum of 880 onarks was required for a pass; Mr Sharp obtained no fewer than lo7& and thus passed, appropriately enough, with his colours atThe masthead. Mr Sharp has been warmly congratulated on his pluck and industry, and it is hoped that his example may encourage and stimulate any returned soldier, who finds himself, perhaps, in a similar difficulty as regards employment. i
