: SPECIAL MEETING OF TEE -BOARD A special meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held, to-day to consider matters in connection with," the .Alexandra Home, including the plans of the new building submitted by Mr Peck. All the members were present. The Chairman said the Department had declined to approve the plans, and as the time was going on something would have to be done. The Board must either re-tbuild or procure another place. It was annoying that the Government had: placed so many difficulties dm the way of the/Board'. The new 'Hospital was held up, and now the Old People's Home. The Inspector-General had been written to, and for reasons for objecting to the plans, but no reply had been received. Mr Peck (present by invitation) said' his plans provided for 50 inmates, but he had provided a modified plan for 40 inmates, to cost approximately ©BOOO. Mr Hoult moved that the property at Richmond 'be purchased.—Not seconded. Mr Macmahon moved that the Chairman and Mi- Peck proceed to Wellington to interview the Minister and officers ot the Department in regard to the plans' and ascertain what the requirements in regard to the plans were. Mr Hoult moved that the deputation consist of Messrs Macmahon, Bell, and himself. ... The Chairman declined to .go to Wellington, after the remarks that had been made, and the motion was lost on the Chairman's casting vote. ' ' After further discussion it was moved that Mr Lock and Mr Peck oroceed to Wellington to interview the Minister and the officers of the Department as to requirements in regard to the plans. It was also resolved that arrangements be made if possible to secure a further lease for twelve months of the present building at Richmond now being used a* a temporary home for the old people.
