s/special meeting of the Union was held on Monday afternoon, for the pur•oose of reconsidering the resolutions passed at last weeks meeting, which were aR re-affirmed. Miss Atkinson and there was a good attendance of members. One new member was admitted. A resolution of sympathy was passed, with Mrs T. Bradshawv who joined the "Union about a fortnight ago, on the sudden death of lier husband last week. Mrs Hill read a letter from the Secretary of the Patriotic Fund, stating that "the time-limit was extended to August 31st. the total amount now received is close upon £I4CO. and it is hoped that with the extension of time the Fund may be brought up to £52000. Letters which have been, received from Borne of the New Zealand men in France show that the money is much needed. The Y.M.C.A., to whom the money is consigned, do their very best to help and care for the men; at the front, and contributors to the Fund may feel quite certain thae it will be used to the greatest advantage. The following announcements were made by the President: —Good Citizenship meeting on Friday week, July 28th. in the Baptist class-room; a sewingmeeting- at Fairfield on Friday. August 4th, to provide clothing for the babies of the soldiers and sailors at Home who have lost their lives in the war; the mcnthlv Intercessor}- Service, whicli is to be held on the first Monday in August, instead of the last in July, as that day is to be kept as a public holiday. " Members were also reminded' that the next Union meeting will begin at 2.45 p.mi, the business to commerce punctually at 3 p.m. A Good Citizenship meeting was held last Friday, the subject for discussion being "Strikes; are thev justifiable?'' Mrs Emmett read an interesting and instructive paper on the cause and origin of strikes, and the good which had been accomplished by them : there was= a good discussion and the following resolution was passed :—"That while not endorsing the principle of force which seems to underlie the practice of strikes. ■we recognise that in the case of serious "Krong3 in which redress cannot be ob tained in any other way, thev are justifiable as emphasising the need of justice in all social relationships."
