A German communique states : There is strong artillery activity on both sides of the Somine. Four British attacks at Ovillers and Bozentin le Petit* in the afternoon broke down in front of our lines, and also the attack commenced in the morning eastward of Bazentin. Lively fighting developed on Saturday evening southward of the Homme. Southward of Biaches we occupied a portion of Biaches, taking prisoners over a hundred. We repulsed with heaviest losses, French attacks near Barleux and Entrees. The French were not successful eastward of the Meuse despite bringing up strong forces against Froi do Terre Hill and Flenry. The French repeatedly assaulted south and west of Thiaumont. and in the evening penetrated a small section of our first lines, where the fighting continues. The infantry fire brought down an enemy aeroplane westward of Loos. A damaged biplane landed in our lines at Nesle. Russians unsuccessfully counter-at-tacked against our line in the region of Syrobowa, which Prince Leopold captured'. Von Linsingen is counter-attack-ing south-westward of Lutsk. Sir Douglas Haig reports that there are heavy bombardments on both side.: but otherwise nothing important.
