WELLINGTON, This Day. - The report bv .Captain Hocking ;in. connection with the incident arising out oE the recent visit of a German prisoner of 'war and his .guard to an Auckland hotel was read in the House yesterday by tlie Minister of Defence. Captain Hocking says:—"l' took charge of Dr. Zeischank at noon on Jane : instructed ,to show him &very. courtesy. ~.. I then took hi®u to my usual piace for laincheon. I informed the -proprietor of the hotel of the -nationality of my conEjpamion and 1 -asked for a private', table. which was suipiplied. The doctor and 1 lunched together and then went t-o ■'•'he; Queen's \ Wharf, cleared the v baggage . from tlie Customs and checked 1 through , to Wellington. The doctor desiring to purchase some thick -underclothing, we went to 'a shop where ha purchased ~ what he required and afterwards went direct [ to my tent at the 'Mount Eden g jard by ti'aini about -5 jp.m. We walked down again to the hotel, arriving about, 7:.20 .-., ip.-m. The doctor then asked! if ho could have a bam and l , this was arranged for him.- About 5.50 p.m. .the l"otel proprietor informed' us of the unrest •amongst his staff* owing to the doctor's \ (presence in the hotel. I said 1 I had no desire to cause trouble and asked for private room-/ As this was not available the .proprietor made arrangements . for -us to drive'to .another hotel which . ■we did. ' After dinner we went to a (picture theatre and l there remained, untu.. it was time to go to the train where.the doctor was handed over to Sergeant Mead. Throughout the whole period- • .the doctor never to imy knowledge. did anything which gentlemen shouild not do r and the allegation) made in the concluding sentence of-a .paragraph is absolutely . false. The Minister said that Dr. Zeitchank . had recently arrived in Sfamoa with msfcructions from' the Imperial- Government to be repatriated under the system of exchange.
