At ;i ' • T'es beintr present, all were formed in- ■ t committee with the addition t*ji r '.adies who were not present. Mrs was elected president. Mrs "Walter C'.'t secretary and treasurer. At the beginning of the year Mrs fiempthorne was elected president on account of Mrs Baker leaving the <i sirtcfc. It was decided to liave a regular monthly subscription of 6d, any greavir sum given, to be as a donation. There are now 127 subscribers on the books which at sixpence an income if £3 3s 6d per month or £3B 2s for the year; but some have civen so generouslv rvery month that the year's monthly ■ribscriptions and donations liav? ".mounted to £6l 14s 6d. it was decided to send £2 T>er month t the Nelson Red Cross Fund. and • e if possible, so instead of sending 1 ".for the year into Nelson we h-ve -i able to; send the sum of £BO 2s fd. * -1: o writinc this 1 report the Brighter Horticultural Committee have
• - in a cheque for £2O. which will j C o > • warded to Nelson, bringing th? .157,r ■ ' ti>. to £IOO 2-S 6d). Vv- '-j raised £8 16s 3d for the Oovpi special appeal. Of course to ' ■ ' 'e. to do this we have had a s.mler of donations, and our thank# are due to all who have given. A srreat deal of sewing- has been done "during the vear. besides sheets, nil'ow slips, handkerchiefs, flannel un-der-shirts. knitted articles of all description. nearly 100 pair pyjamas and nightshirts have been' made, also 63 buttercloth shirts were made for the Liverpool Fund by the 'Red Cross Guild. A great deal of old linen is needed, and very little is sent in. Any old calico, bed and table linen, is what is needed. Burins the year the Helping Hand Shop Committee wrote asking if we could give them any help, and we decided to send a contribution on the 4th '.Thursday of every month. Mostly the same people have helpe-l every time. We think when it is known how small a contribution can help that we will get more. A loaf of home-made bread, a dozen of eggs, sweets, a bunch of vegetables, or a cake are all acceptable, and I am sure there are many who could isend and would not miss it. Contributions must be left at Mrs F. Rutherford's the day before, j As regards, sewing, we are badly -"n i need of more workers, and would be I glad of anv help in that way, also of I gifts of old linen. I should like to 1 mention that as well as material made jup that we have paid for, Mrs Clay has j ;jiven us two rolls of flannelette. Mrs Fairey has also given material, and a j gentleman who desires to remain anony- | mous, has left orders at different times with Mrs Fairey for about £2 10s worth of materials , Mrs F. Rutherford commenced a knittirig club last year, and the members have done a lot for tho Red Cross as well as for tho Belgian Box. Regarding donations, Mrs Austin has helped greatly by handing to oui; Branch money re- ' ceived by her from the sale of Persian kittens. * She still has a number to dispose of. i In conclusion I would like to say how much I have been helped by the_ Committee during the past year. I wish especially to thank the -collectors, in very i few .cases have they been late with i their money. I All have" worked so willingly, it is hard to pick out anyone individually, but I feel that Mrs J. Hill deserves our best thanks, for as well as doing a great deal of sewing and collecting, she has done nearly all the cutting out. It will be of interest- to know that our oldest worker is just under 80 years, and our youngest worker is just under 5 years of age. i Special thanks are due to Mr Baigent for carrying our monthly parcel of garments to the Red Cross Depot free of charge, also to both of the daily pa tiers for publishing acknowledgments and box takings, also to the -cliib committee for the use of the club-rq>oni for the sewing and any meetings. I want to add that of the £9 13s 7d that was collected from the Bed Cross boxes that £3 16s Id came from Mill. P. Forster's Box.
