Mr Massey replied to the deputation. similarly as in the House last week. H'e reminded tho deputation tliat the last licensing poll, though taken after tho war began, did not close a- single'hotel.'\ , It would have been unreasonable foir Parliament to have •done' anything against the expressed, wish of the people > voiced only a few months ago. Our control of drmk compared very favourably ' with other.countries. None would.suggest the exchange of New Zealand licen-* sinir conditions for those in England. Ho repeated that wet canteens would not be opened in, New Zealand and promised that the matter of licensed hours .would , be considered by the "Government. . .
