Thev declared that men were not comin'r forward in sufficient numbers, while "the. high proportion of man'ied! men, each costing £8 more monthly than single men,'was not desirable. Sir R- BorcLen, while- promising; to •rive the matter"consideration, declined to commit himself to'the abandonment of voluntaryism;. He admitted, that there wore loopholes in the voluntary systemi for economic waste. Still, they were procuring the recruits required at the ■rate of a thousand daily.
