THE FINAL LAP
* "Remember, it is the final lap that ■wins." —King George. Hold on! The Tyrant's ranks are thinned, Great .Russia.'gains her second wind, Our loyal sons, once far apart, Assemble for a swinging start; Her faith to this Britannia pins—"lt is the final lap that wins." What though the Traitors hold the lead By mean deceit and ruthless greed; E'en now the rugged course they feel' Rebellious of their.weight of steel; Britannia scarce the race begins—"lt is "the final'lap that wins!" Take heart, ye whelmed beneath the - flood' Of savage hate and fire and blood; Not to the swift the bays belong, "Nor is the battle to .the strong"; Weep not to know the Devil grins ; It is the final lap that wins! Long live our King, the course to see From warlike, wikl contention free, Beneath the feet of swift Good-will, The race to cure and not to kill; When nations strive to shed their sins, 'Tis still the final lap that wins! —Arthur Waghorn, in the London :• "Chronicle."
