The woman's condition is serious The couple had had frequent quarrels and after a row on Tuesday Hayes, left. He returned early this morning, smashed the window with an axe, and entered a room where his wife was sleeping with six or eight children. One tried to ward off a blow from his mother. A note found in Hayes 'pocket referred to family troubles and his intention to kill his wife.
