SERIOUS STRIKE IN AMERICA

A serious strike and rioting occurred at Youngstown, Ohio, resulting in one killed 1 and 40 injured. A"" hundred rioters 'were imprisoned. The business section of the town -was destroyed by fire, causing £200,000 damage. The trouble commenced- in an attempt to reduce the wages of the Tubing Mill_ employees by '25 cents -daily. The strikers took possession of the ' streets, looted, and then fired a saloon. Drink maddened they attacked other saloons and subsequently large general stores on-the main street/ Of -twenty saloons • the town only had two nnburned, and they Were looted. '" • ■ -
A mixed crowd jeered the workmen. Wheta crossing a bridge a- wild shot w.as fired which the Guards answered by"■■firing over the heads of the crowd, wliich replied with! exchanges.' . This was followed by an urgent call that- citizens were- "being maltreated, and indiscriminate shooting in the streets brought several •companies of militia. BrigadierGeneral Sparks proclaimed, martial law, order tieing gradually restored.
