The D-epartjhen't of Aginculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London. 24th December. 1915- (Note,—Quotations, -unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) : Mutton and Lamb. —The- market has been active at- higher prices during this week, although a large supply of homekilled was available for the Christmas trade. Canterbury and North Island mutton is not quoted owing to short supply. There are only a few carcases of Canterbury mutton "on the market, and they i are'selling at 7£d per lb; ewes, a brisk i demand, "6&d. , Lambs : The market remains firm. The demand has been chiefly for heavy -weights. Canterbury two's, per ' lb.: heavyweight fours, 7|d ; second-class quality lightweight, 7d ; other than 'Canterbury, 7|d; for best - quality: ordinary quality, 7,j.d. Beef.—The market is firm. Only second-class quality cow beef is available, and it is selling at: Hinds, sfd per lb; forces, sd. Chilled. —A moderate supply ; hinds, 7-Jd ; fores, s|d. Butter. —The marget is dull, with a downward tendency. Danish, market very depressed. 160s to 168s; New Zealand. 148s and up to 1525; u.nsalted 152s and up to 156s : Australian, 144s to 1465: Siberian, 126s to 1345; Argentine, 143s to 1525. ' Cheese. —The market is firm with hardening tendency'. • Canadian, white and coloured,' per cwt., 94s to 955; New Zealand," firnr market with good demand, 91-« to 925: English eheddar. 100s-"to 102s;" Cheshire, iC5s to 110s. Hemp:-—The market remains firm. I think the advance will be maintained ; on account of the heavy freight rates Manila offerings are very small, as shippers cannot arrange for immediate shipment. Fair current Manila, per ton. .£45 ; coarse, £39; New Zealand good-fair, £39; fair, £37. January to March : New Zealand, trobd-fair. £33; fair, £36; fair current .Manila. £45: coarse. £3B. The output from Manila' for the. week was 22,000 bales. '
' Wheat.—The- market is firm and prices continue to advance. There is a general aud active demand. Canadian,'on spot, 63s per quarter; January to March, 61s; Australian, January to February steamer 645; sailer. 61s. Oats.—The market is firm, with an upward tendency. Argentine, on spot, 32s 6d per quarter; January to February, 31s 6d. Hops.—The market is very quiet: nothing doing.-It is affected by the uncertainty regarding licensing legislation. .
