THE TRENTHAM EPIDEMIC
AN INFECTIOUS COMPLAINT. (United Association.) WELLINGTON, July 11. The Prime Minister was asked yesterday afternoon for a definite statement as to the reason for so suddenly shifting the camp. It was pointed out that the public desired the information; Mr Massey replied: "The medical authorities told us that the complaint from which a number of the men were suffering was infectious, and there was no probability of their being able to cope with it unless the men were shifted *it once." - TRENTHAM REGIMENT AT PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON N., July 11. The advance party of the Trentham Regiment (Earl of Liverpool's Own) arrived at the new camp at Rangiotu, near Palmerston North, at about 3 on Saturday morning. Rain was falling, the heaviest experienced here for many yeaTs, and it was decided not to detrain the men, who remained' in the carriages and were brought back to Palmerston. After the men. had been served with rations, they were sent to Awapuni, and made comfortable tinder the racecourse grandstand. The rest of the men, about 1500, arrived during the day, and were sent to the "sheds on- the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Officers and probationary non-commissioned' officers were billeted, at hotels. ; C;yer 2000 soldiers are at present in town. It is expected that the men will go into camp first thing in the morning. The camp site is duite dry, although the surrounding 'districts are flooded-. The weather is how fine.
