PERMANENT PICTURES.
A "bright and attractive programme ■was screened the the Empire Theatre last evening, when, a feature of great interest , was a film showing a -of tie New Zealand and Australian Troops at Cairo, showing the arrival of the Inspection Staff, tne Artillery Brigade passing before Generals Birdwood and Godley, thp New-Zealand ; In-* fantry and Mounted" Brigade and- ytheTransport columns-and Field This picture, which was received most enthusiastically, will again be screened to-night in conjunction with an- entirely new' series : of films, including two star dramas, an exciting Mexican play, "The Grip of the Past," and a. fine love etory by, the/ Edison Company entitled- "The Unopened Letter," the last-mentioned film being 2CXX>ft in length. The latest Keystone- farce, full of -merry surprises, and an. interesting Australian Gazette are also included in this list. Takaka -■will be visited as usual on Saturday. . The real interest of the story now begins, and- those who see 'this picture orr the screent to-night will be kept in suspense until the finale. , The supporting. pictures are of srreat interest, and the Palmer Topical, "Tommy Atkins, Esq." is one of the finest parotic pictures yet screened. This film- is 1000 feet in -length, and starts with .the straining of the raw recruit, j the various phases of. -camp and; .barrack life, until we "are shown the finished article who has proved that the. voluntary soldier is a far greater fighting man than the conscript. There is also a big War Specia-i and a number of well seleoted comedies and dramas. At the matinee to-morrow, the winner of the watch and chain; presented "t>y Btowii.
