The Mayor presided, and iheTe was a good attendance of members. The minutes of tlie mgetmg were read, arid several matters pertaining- thereto were dealt with. In connection "tb'o RbcJ; Oros3 Funds raised by the picture entertainment, a subcommittee of Messrs Bell, Boyce and the Mayor "was appointed to dispose of the amount. To facilitate the woifki of the general committee, the meeting appointed the following as an executive: The Chairman, Messrs Sainsbury, Boyce, Thomas and Rev. Ashcroft. A sub-committce of Messrs Hunt. Bell, Wilkes, Dr. Wa&bourn, and Mrs May was appointed to control the fiundi for tho ' Wounded Soldiers, and. the original recruiting committee to continue to act in recruiting matters. As several more young men had enlisted from Richmond and district, it was left to the recruiting committee to ascertain particulars regarding probable departure. _ ■Considerable discussion took place regarding the system of voluntary contri-

butions, and it was decided to send on ] to the Government a recommendation that immediate steps be taken, in regard to ai war-tax. A motion wtis also passed that a recommendation, be forwarded to the Nelson Committee re the advisability of arranging a conference of representatives to place the views of the "constituents before the ■members of Nelson and adjoining electorates, for their guidance in regard to a war-tax, which will be discussed when Parliament assembles. A letter to the Mayor from Private G. New, on/behalf of the Richmond boys in the Seventh Reinforcements at Trentharri, was read, stating that in spite of the mud they were perfectly happy. The Committee was informed 'that Nurse Field, of Waranilla Cottage Hospital, had offered to provide accommodation, free of charge, for three invalided soldiers—Nelson men preferred' —which offer was received with applause. The Mayor also stated that Mr M ttoadden had: forwarded to the Committee a gold chain and 'pendant to be disposed of for, the benefit of the Sick and i Wounded Fund, and. A well-attended, and enthusiastic meeting was held at Collingwood to form a branch of the Patriotic . and Recruiting Association. »■ Mr • IT. Stallard, organiser, for the Nelson Association, outlined the methods of the organisation gSpd' fthe main objects, which were firstly to assist in every'possible way in kettping up the supply of recruits for reinforcements from Nelson district hy securing registration of all those eligible for service; ,secondly to assist financially and otherI wise, all intending recruits .both: in go'ing and on iheir- return; and thirdly to render assistarice where necessary to dependents of wounded ebldiers find of those killed in action. -It was., proposed by Mr H. B, Riley, seconded by "W. J. Addison,, arid carried, that a branch of the Patriotic 'and Recruiting. Association be formed iii Collingwood. i A Committee of ' seven was elected, consisting of Messrs Addison, Cartrier, Cavanagh, Hookc-ir, Max-shall, 'O'Connor, and Stallard..
