GERMANS IN NEW ZEALAND.
f£o the Editor.) Sir, —During the present -war, -which has been in existence for some' months, several matters have come under my notice, that I cannot fully understand, one being the internment of ene;»; aliens. When war -was first declared I ■presume the police in this country ieceiVod instructions >from the military authorities to detain all Germ ins and to intern them on Somes's Islari t-ntii the end of the war, so far so roou, but is this .carried out? I cannot b-it think that the responsible author; ties are neglecting a national duty in .-.Hawing Germans the freedom that l coLtnd'-r they do not deserve. Thaui'ting you in anticipation. I am, etc., BRimH.
(The treatment of Germans resident m New Zealand is, of course, a master of legitimate newspaper corresoondonce, but reference to individuals, unless backed by facts proving hostile actions ior intentions, cannot be alh>.v.d, and therefore portions of the ietW 1-s-ve been deleted. So far as the point ik.-s-ed by the correspondent is concan-jd we understand (unofficially) that the Germans interned on Somee' Island art largely German Reservists who are na l Je to be called to the colours).
