(Umitsd Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The criminal sessions of the Supremo . Court opened to-day before the Chief Justice. In his cnarge to the Grand Jury His Honor said that altogether there were 13 prisoners. None of the charges were serious, except three oases of interference with young children. It | was extraordinary that such cases took) place continually in the community. OHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The criminal sessions of the Supremo Court opened to-day. There are eifi[hto charges against eight men. Mr Justice Denniston, in his charges, remarked that the calendar was light, and few of the cases were of a really serious chaxaoi ter.. Cecil Farrow, 26, appeared for I sentence for embezzling £693 from the I Lyttelton Borough Council, for which, ho was " cashier. He stated that the money was spent in card playing and horse-racing. Counsel said Farrow had. enlisted with the artillery to go to the war when he was arrested. The authorities were prepared to take him. Restitution would ibe made. _ His Honor postponed sentence to consider whether .the special circumstances warrant giving the man a chance to serve his ountrv. Ho postponed sentence for a fortnight. ■ , Edward Robert .Wilson, 17, was admited to probation for a year on two fcharges of theft from the Springfield Post Office, where he was relieving. DUNEDIN, This Day. The criminal' sittings _ opened morning before Mr Justice Sim. There is only one case for trial. ick William Giester, 33, was brought up for .sentence for .breaking and', entering at Lawrence, and was sentenced to nine moths' imprisonment.
