The retreating enemy have ibeen thrown back. for a considerable distance. General von Wedel, commanding a German cavalry division, was taken prisoner near Ossovaitz. He. tried to commit suicide, but was disarmed.
AUSTRIAN AND GERMAN REPORTS. AMSTERDAM, May 7. An Austrian official message 'claims that the Russians are. retreating on the whole front. A German communique confirms the Austrian official message in regard to the Carpathians. " An Austrian official message claims to have gained the la6t of the Russian positions on the height east of Dunajetz and Biala, and also to havei occupied Tar now. A RUSSIAN-DENIAL. PARIS, May 7. The Russian Embassy denies .the enemy's victory in Western Galicia.
