FIGHTING AT HILL 60
RENEWED ATTACK BY THE
GERMANS.
LONDON, May 6_
•Sir John French reports that fighting is in progress at Hill 60, where the Germans gained a footing this morning under cover of gas, which was extensively used, the weather favouring it. They also made a feeble attack east of Yypres, and were easily repulsed, our artillery inflicting severe losses. The Germans exploded a mine in the neighbourhood of Givenchy; and used gas, four of our men being poisoned. Otherwise the attack failed.
