The "Times" correspondent- at Washington states that .the-relations between ■China and Japan are being prominently discussed. The State Department is working energetically to moderate the demands which Japan is alleged to have irlade. It is hoped, for many reasons, tliat the action of Washington will re[sult in a satisfactory elucidation. AmeriI can friends of Japan do not believe that j she will-us© the opportunities of the war | to tamper with China, but the American public is rendered anxious by a constant stream of reports of Japan s acts.
