(From Our Correspondent,) The usual monthly meeting (and the last before, the municipal elections) of the Motueka Borough Council, was held on i Tuesday last. 'His Worship the Mayor (Mr. P. G.. Moffatt, Nelson, stating (1) that the National Bank of Australia had purchased a section of his High-street property, and 'asking _ theCouncil's permission to dedicate a right-of-way between the Bank and the buildings on his own section;.and (2), asking the Council to inform him as to compensation due to him for 17ft of land' in - Greenwood-street. The building on the section had been destroyed 'by fire, and a, new building would have to, be, put ba\?k on the new street line. As the site only suitable for business premises, 'the applicant contended'that; being 17.feet back from the road \fould considerably depreciate the value of the section. The London "Daily Graphic," of Jan. 28th, recently to hand, contains > the following :—"A consignment of eggs from New Zealand, the first and probably the only lot to reach England this year, has ■ been received in London by Messrs , Henry Lane and Co., Ltd., of Tooley-st., by whom they will be sold on behalf of the comforts "fund for the New Zealand soldiers. • -• "There are 24 cases, of twelve pach, and the eggs are sent by ■ 'the women of Motueka district,, New 1 Zealand.' ' - "The eggs are stated to be in excellent condition, despite their six (weeks' '.voyage. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Belgian Fund. The Te Hiwi bowlers were made welcome here on Tuesday last, when they drew with a rink from the local club.
