BAZAAR AT HAVELOCK.

The bazaar and sale of work, produce, etc., at Canvastowri, held on March -27, in aid of the Belgian Fund, and which was opened by Mr T. A.vH. Field, M.P., was a great success. Misses Brown, Dalton", and Miller- canvassed the district for contributions. The stalls- were ;as follows : Miss Jones, Lollie; Mrs Rush, Vegetable ;Mr Ward, Easter Tree; Mr Hart, Butcher's Shop; Mrs Rasmussen and Miss Brown, Refreshment. A big cheese, .made at the Rai Cheese Factory, containing a large number of silver coins, brought £ll lis, land a Belgian flag •realised £lO. Beautifully decorated cakes made by Miss Dalton and (Mrs Bourke also realised 'good sums. An amusing incident' was the commandeering of some fowls asleep in a neighbouring tree, '-by some practical jokers who took them into the produce stall to ,the auctioneer.' Colchester-Wemyss, ,tho county director of voluntary.,aid, Gloucestershire branch of the British ,Red Cross Society,, in a letter to .Mrs Lock, Mayoress of under date Gloucester, February 16th, says:— I "I write to you, in reply to a letter received from Mrs Matthews, dated at Nelson, January sth last, with which ! she enclosed a , list of articles .packed ' in an ambulance .chest which had .been i shipped to me on the 23rd ' Decerhber. Will you please accept the most hearty thanks of the Gloucestershire,,,branch.of , the Red Cross Society for this most welcome contribution? It may interest you to know that, working with th© military hospital in. Bristol, which has accommodation for 670 beds, and which receives wounded direct from overseas, we have in Gloucestershire a large number of -voluntary aid hospitals, each accommodating 50 beds and upwards, the primary, duty ,of which. is>.to take the transfers from<neighbouring military hos- ( pitals as they become crowded. Wo have accommodation in our country voluntary aid hospitals for over 1000 Beds, which accommodation can be largely extended if the necessity over arises."
