ESCAPE FROM THE LOOK-UP.
' The man Frederick Harris, was [sentenced on Thursday to a month's im- • prisonment on a charge of breaking a plate glass window, made a dash for liberty while in the exercise yard at the "lock-up yesterday forenoon. The gaoler (Contable Macdonald), at once'made chase, and was i assisted by two Territorials who '.were, in' tlie vicinity. The prisoner made his ■ way to Bridge-street, and took the di- ; rection.of Norman by Bridge, where Mr A. . Dee prevented his getting away 1 further. Harris made no trouble, and went-back quietly with the gaoler, who had by this time come* up. Charged at. the Magistrate's Court this morning with escaping from custody, Harris pleaded guilty, stated that- his escape was due to a sudden ira--1 pulse, and that in the future he would I "lead a good 'Christian life." j The Magistrate said something must | be done to stop these sudden impulses, < and sentenced accused to a .month's im- ; prisonment, to be cumulative with the j sentence he is already undergoing.
