CARNIVAL QUEEN ELECTION

POSITION OF CANDIDATES. The position of candidates for the Queen of Carnival election in aid of the funds of the 12th. Regiment Band after the ballot boxes -were cleared this morning showed little change from that o* yesterday. Miss Bland still retains the lead, and the only alteration is that M?ss Pearfc has replaced Miss Hamilton for sixth position. The candidates are now in the following positions: — Miss Bland (Hop and Barley Growers.) Miss Harris (Defence Rifle Club.) Miss Bradley (Territorials.) Miss Buchanan (Oddfellows.) Miss Betts (Public Service.) Miss Peart (Farmers' Union.) Miss Hamilton (Swimming Club.) Miss Baxter (Hibernians.) Miss Hair (Old Boys.) "FETE OF NATIONS." Arrangements are now well in hand for the forthcoming Fete of Nations and Bazaar to be held in the Theatre Royal, commencing on the Ist March. Some of the items in the programme will be the Grand March of the Empire with electrical effects; tango; hesitation waltz; Argentine schottische; seven minutes with! 12 lively Quaker girls; ballets, statuary and tableaux; item by eight little Hollanders (on the last performance of this item at Invercargill 24 boxes of chocolates were thrown on to the stage); Japanese trot by 32 little Japanese folk with lantern effects; the soldier, grand march of the Allies; Old Erin the Shamrock, by a squad of 16 ladies and soloists with electrical bulb swinging; Bonnie Dundee, a military march by 16 Highlanders, which includes a song and fling and a number of new songs. With such a varied programme there is every reason to believe the Theatre Royal will be packed every evening during Carnival week. Photographs of Queen Election candidates are on view at the Broma Studio. ———^■
