FINANCING THE WAR

ME LLOYD GEORGE'S STATEMENT. BRITAIN'S ASSISTANCE TO HER ALLIES. (Pbess Association.—CoprßiQHX.) (Received Feb. 16, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 16. Mr Lloyd George, continuing his statement in the House of Commons, said Britain had advanced £32,000,000 _ for Russian purchases here ana had given her a credit of £40,000,000. We had also made advances to Russia and France in respect to purchases ' ill • France. Bussia had also resolved on large purchases outside. She was able to export wheat largely, and France and'-Britain'haid decided to raise a first loan of £50,000,000 in their respective markets' to satisfy Russia's requirements. Onr cold accumulations were tHe largest in tn'« country's history, while the great gold reserves of France and Russia had 'been barely touched since the "outbreak of the war.
