To-day was an off-day in connection with the New Zealand' swimming , championships, but a "surf reel competition for the Nelson Shield was held by the Royal Life-saving Society. The only teams to. compete were Hawkc's Bay aiid Canterbury, and the former won by 81 points to 78. '
