BUSH FIRES IN THE NORTH
SETTLERS'. HEAVY LOSSES. (United Pbbss Association.; DANNEVIRKE, Dec. 17. The fires which have been raging in the Ngapaeruru and surrounding district became very serious on Wednesday, and a number of residents of Danuevirke went, out to assist the settlers in fighting the flames. No houses have, been lost in this locality, but many stock have perished. The tires are still burning. The newly settled Otawhao block was also swept bv fire, and it is reported that five C- L. Olsen, Clayton, Hunt, Pritchard, and Bee— have had their residences swept away. Their losses in other directions were. also heavy.
