Mr S. J. Mathieson, who has laboured so successfully with the. Church of Christ, Waimea-street, has deemed it owing to ill-health; to take complete rest for a time. Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P., for Motueka, was in the city to-day, and received many congratulations on his victory at the recent election. Mr It. Allan, "Honaki," leaves siortI - for a trip to New' Guinea and Borneo, jjor some time pa'sfc; Mr Allan has beep collecting butterflies from the Pacific I* : lands. Oh his recent trip to the Solomon Islands, where'he spent five and months'without even a dull half-tour,.-he made a specially fine collection of butterflies. Duvinp his travels Mr Allan visited lands inhabited by cannibalistic tribes and had many adventures that would have been decidedly unpleasant to a less. daring personality. During his NewGuinea tour Mr Allan will make special collections at the. request of the Canterbury Museum authorities
