GERMANS CONCENTRATING NEAR COURTRAI
ADVANCE ON CALAIS ABANDONED AMSTERDAM, Dec. 15. An important concentration of German troops near Cotrrtrai is interpreted to indicate that the recent plans for an advance on Calais have been abandoned in favorir of an attempt to break the Allies' line further inland.
The Germans round Bruges were hurriedly transferred to the interior of Belgium. The German authorities at Thielt announce that anybody carrying arms in East Flanders after the 15th will be summarily shot. The whole of the public and historical buildings at Ghent have been mined. FRENCH AIRMEN. (Ilcc. Dec. 16, 8.45 a.m.) PARIS. "Dec. 15. A French aviator ignited a German train at Pagny-sur-Moselle. Another aviator saw Germans living submarines in Bruges Canal. GRENADES MADE ON THE SPOT. LONDON, Dec. J4. An officer of the Royal Engineers writes that his company is .turning out hand grenades at the rate of 300 daily. They are made of empty jam tins til led with small pieces of iron and a few ounces of gun-cotton. Similar methods were employed in fighting in the 18th century. GERMAN LANDWEHR BEING REPLACED. AMSTERDAM. Dec. 14.
The "Telegraaf" states that the German Landwehr on the Dutch frontier have been sent to the front and been replaced by older soldiers and also by slightly wounded men.
