NELSON HARBOUR BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho following business, in addition/ to that published yesterday was trans? acted at the monthly n: eeting of tbo Nelson Harbour Board : DEPUTATION. A deputation representing tho Motueka Harbour Board, consisting of Messrs T. Pattie, Mace, and Holdaway, waited on tho Board with referenco to the purchase of the'tug Gordon, tho hiring of tho, crane and trucks, and! tho purchase of rails. Mr Pattie stated that the Motuekai Board had not tho money to buy tho tug, and desired to know what the Board would hire the tug for at per week; also whether the crane, trucks, and raila would be hired. His Board thought the trucks and rails should be included aa "gear," and not separately charged for. Mr Mace referred to the charge of £SO for repairing one of the borrowed punts, which ho submitted was excessive. Mr Holdaway asked the Nelson Board to appreciate that Motueka had no idea cf beiHg a rival to Nelson, but rather a feeder to Nelson. He hoped the Nelson Board would interpret tho charter party in a liberal spirit. The deputation withdrew, and tho Board proceeded to discuss the matters raised. It was resolved to offer the use of the tug at £3 a week, the crane at £1 ss, and the sleepers and rails at 10s-r----or £4 a week for all the items; tug to bo insured for £BSO, and the crane lor £BOO, by the Motueka Board. : . The Harbourmaster was instructed' to confer with Mr Mace in regard to tho charge for the repair of the punt., - • On the terms being submitted to Mr Pattie, he said he thought his Board would object to having to insure the tug and crane. He considered this should be a charge on the Nelson Board. Other-' wise he thought his Board would accept the terms. -'""' , . , «i % It was then resolved that the 'Nelson Board offer to bear half the insurance charge. ' : , ■ ■> .
CORRESPONDENCE. . The Minister of Railways wrote agreeing to extend the option for tha purchase of the wharves to the end of tho ; 1915 session.' • . ' . ■ N • In reply to tho Murchison" County'; Council, the, Chairman had instructed the 1 secretary to reply that it was advisable that the poll of ratepayers as to joining • the Nelson Harbour District should bo proceeded:'with. Mr Bell suggested that -Murchison shouid be taken m at half the rate. _lt was finaUy-4-eso*ved uthat. Murchisonbe requested to take the poll," audi -that, the County Council be informed Ahat the Board would take steps * to securo a. lesser rate for 'Murchison-County in aiv Act of Parliament. . , The "Collector of Customs, ■ Nelson, drew attention to the illegal taking .of; oysters, and stated that in,any future' prosecution a severe ..penalty -would bo\ asked for. HARBOURMASTER'S REPORT. The Harbourmaster"{Captain H. :Collins) reported that; trade for the month had -been at the usual volume for, this' period of the- season. During the month' 129 vessels, including one intercolonial sailing vessel, entered and left toeport. 'J They 25 Union boats, ..78'* small steamers, and 25 sailing vessels, having a total tonnage of 25,219, against 25,571 tons for tho corresponding period :.< of last year. The Chairman referred: to, the loan proposal for harbour improvements, and moved that further action bo deferred. for three months.—Carried* v. .
