Sir.—Mr TtinniclitiVs letter on the| above subject is ti> the point. Ihe bakers are at fault in not taking the consumers into their confidence. and openly stating the whole is just possible that they require help equally as much as the consumers, the latter 1 in their turn when they have a grievance must hand it back to the bakers, and they must either pass ,t «-s> or take the responsibility. A recent < n-. cular from the grain merchants- states that very little wheat, is in the hands of the farmers, and: at the same time the Prime Minister states there is siifiieient wheat in New Zealand to see us through till next harvest, therefore it must be in other hands, and the bakers must openly tell us what they know in the matter. Just prior to the outbreak of war wheat advanced 20s. This was circularised b.v the Association', and was a fair rise; but the second increase of 20s was no, I understand, circularised ; or. in other wor-ds, no explanation was offered to justify it. I hope this agitation will grow apace, that the bakers will help in it. and that if necessary, the Government will institute a food supply board to investigate and report to the Justice Department. Herein lays a golden opportunity of 'a square deal to-the public an-d good protection to legitimate trade. 1 am. etc., FAIR PLAY.
