Tho following • items have- been received by the Government:— Russia has nrobilised 2,000,000 troope on the German frontier, the same number on the Austrian frontier. 500,000 on the Turkish frontier, and 500,000 on the Roumanian frontier. All are ready to act. Tho enemy's offensive has been momentarily arrested in Alsace. Lord Kitchener plans that the Territorials who volunteer and' tho Dominions contingents shall be used abroad if they are needed, and tho other Territorials, for home defence.

AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. The Auckland Teachers' Institute resolved to contribute to the war fund on a basis of 3-£ per cent, of their salaries. Half of the contribution will be for Imperial and half for local needs. WANGANUI. Aug. 16. In less than a • week Wanganui has raised £4OOO in cash for the war fund, while £IOOO has been given in kind. NAPIER, Aug. 16.
