The Hamburg-Amerika steamer Vaterland (55.000 tons), the largest- vessel in the world, when leaving port, overturned a coal-barge, dragged two tugboats, from their berths, and when, backing out nearly, crashed into two large passenger steamers. The leviathan tlien swung towards the pier, and the churning 1 of her Screws sucked the water out of it, causing the hawsers of two steamers'to snap,: arid, forcing them against the bulkheads, smashing their own rails and also the pier rails. The Vaterland finally proceeded on her voyage, after inflicting £6OOO damage. .
