TO-MORROW'S FIXTURES. Senior:— Waimea —Old Boys, Park 1, 3 p.m. College—Nelson, Park 2, 3 p.m. Junior : College—Old Boys, Park 1, 2 p.m. Rival—Hope Pirates, Richmond, 3 p.m. Third Class : Old Boys v. College, Park 2, 2 p.m. NOTES. (By "Dropkick.") The games at the Park to-morrow should attract a large attendance of spectators and provide first-class- football. . College will make the:r first appearance, and this event is always looked; forward to with keen interest. The spectator who would not foe satisfied with the exhibitions of the game given last Saturday would bo hard indeed to please, and tho keen followers of the game in. Nelson, must have felt, 1 after the last two or three lean • seasons. considerable pleasure at the high standard of the pay shown.; number of new players of sterling 1 merit havo come here this season, and in addition) to this there is a keenness being evinced by all clubs that augurs well. I have, to extend congratulations ! to the Nelson Club upon their re-entrance into the senior grade, and their performance last Saturday showed clearly that they will-be a determining factor ini tho championship contest. The Rival-Old- Boys' bout was fast, and interesting throughout)-and/ credit due to the sides for being able to maintain, thus early in the season, pace set. Without doubt the Rival' pack is at present the best in the competition, and their work in this match was excellent. In Watson and, Perry they have a pair of fine leaders, and the remainder of the vanguard played up -well to their lead. Kenning's play was exceptionally good, and although a last year's junior, he should have no difficulty in retaining his place. The backs, at present are'lacking in combination, but the materialis there alright. 'Hale and Huse especially did good service. Everett, the Old. Boys' skipper, play? Ed a great game as usual, and "was easily the best back on the ground. Boyes was off, and was much too slow in getting his passes away. He is also inclined, to lob the ball instead of shoot* ing it away quickly. ; • Blincoe showed up well, his taking and handling being good: He must endeavour, however, to account for his man before letting the: ball aw ay, and also run- straight. These faults on Saturday were responsible for crowding his outside men and leaving them too well marked to work with effect. Harley is inclined to run too much into the ruck, otherwise ho performed well. ' • ' ' 1 Griffin and Vcrcoe did creditably. The latter is rather wo- n k at tackling, and is also'inclined to wit f'*r the bounce. Rout plaved well behind' the scrum, and worked solidly throughout. The vanguard all v worked hard, Xiiddle, Stringer, and Lrittlejohn being perhaps the pick. The open 1 work, andi hooking was gocd, but the men ark top slow in Q-pf l-'ng down. Tho Nel on-Wnimea game -was a clash mainly of forwards, arid both divisions worked har4 throughout. Hunter and Best were the pick of the respective sides, and retain their old form well. ' ' The position of the Championship table at present is as follows, College, of course, having played 110 matches
The senior and third-class seven-a-«ido tournament!? to be hold on Juno 3rd 1 (King's Birthdav) promise to be full of interest. Excellent entries have been received, and fast-exciting matcliee in liotl: grades may bo anticipated. • ' The senior selector has nominated tho following players for tile inter-island match and Australian tour:—Ba-cks: Everett, 'Huso and Saxon ; forwards : Watson, Perry, and Best. No fault can bo fouridi with his choice. Everett and Watson especially have shown great form this' year, and any of tho men' nominated should, if selected, creditably represent the province. It is welcome news' to know that the Rugby Union- proposes to take stern measures in dealing with spectators who may bo in any way objectionable at' matches. It is due to the public who attend tho games that this should bo done, and also to tho referee and the players. It may not rcerhaps bo generally known that tho Union has tho power to warn off all grounds under its control for the length of timo it may thinfi fit any person who makes himself objectionable at- matches under tho jurisdiction of the Union.
