The draft Bill amending the Immiuration Act abolishes the residential license, and validates -de facto monogamous marriages by registration. Provision is made for Indian priests to soleirnise marriages. Disorderlv scenes occurred in the Union Parliament when General Smuts moved the closure on tho land tax proposals, and Messrs Creswell, Madelv, and Boydell were ordered to withdraw. General Smuts's amendment deleting the exemption was carried by 49 votes to 20. An amendment limiting the operation of the measure to a. year was carried by 58 to 17.
