A nirl named Gwendoline Leather, when veturniuu; home at about 6 o clock last night-. was assaulted bv ;i man who hit her 011 the iiead with an iron spanner. She fell and her assailant grasped her by the throat. She screamed ami the man snatched her handbag and •bolted. The girl lias two scalp wounds, which reunited twelve stitches, and she bears marks 011 her neck.

The spanner is in possession of the police, but. there is no further clue.
