An interesting test case came before Mr Widdowson. 5..M., this' morning. to determine whether an industrial union had the right to inflict fines on its members for non-attendance' at union meetings held on Sunday. The parties to the dispute were the Otago Train ways Tmion and Duncan ]ngle, a member of the union. The claim was for only. The action was a* friendlv one. Mr Hanlon, for the defendant. explained that he had not obtained direct legal authority on the point, "but submitted if the Court of Justice could not fine on Sunday an industrial union had no power to penalise a member for nonattendance at a meeting on Sunday. Judgment was reserved.
