By his will the late Sir ofcri Murray, K.C.8., Edinburgh, leaves his collections, scientific books and instruments, along with a number of shares, for the promotion of scientific research. r | There is little doubt that the reward of £SOOO just offered by the Ontario Parliament for the first discovery of radium in Ontario will soon be won. Since radium was first discovered sixteen years ago in European pitchblende it has been located in other minerals in almost every part of the globe. The United States, India, Africa, and Australia all po6sess radiumbearing minerals, and even in desolate Labrador small percentages of radium have been found in the mineral labrodorite. That pedestrians just as much bound to look out for vehicles when crossing or using a street as the drivers of vehicles are bound to look out for the safety of foot passengers, was an ai gument used by Mr MacGregor, counsel for the defence, in a claim for damages againsrt the owner of a motor, at the Auckland Supreme Court. The opposing counsel (Mr Reid, Iv.C.) argued that it might just as well be said that a motor car could be driven down a hill and run into anyone who happened to be in its way. Lkter, his Honor Mr Justice Cooper, in his summing up, clearly stated the law on the subject. A motor car was in the same category as a locomotive or a tramcar, and the person in- charge of it, or any vehicle propelled by mechanical means, and which was capable of developing a high T »te of speed, was bound to use the care and caution which that class of machine demanded in order to ensure the safety of the public. The driver of a moto-r car should uee extra care in approaching a tramway stopping place, where a car was drawn up, to avoid i-unning over nassengers who might be aliffhting from the tram. As regards pedestrians they had a right to be on the highway, but were not exeunt from a duty to take care of themselves.

This so impressed him that he gave the formula to several medical journals and newspapers, and it ■ was extensively printed by them, and within the last few years many thousands, of persons owe their beautiful heavy hair to this simple ancient, inexpensive formula., although most of th'ern-probably have no idea of how it was.first discovered.-For the benefit of readers.we print the formula again : —1 ounce Lavona de Compceee, i dram Menthol Crystals,' 3 ounces of Bay Rum.
