PERMANENT PICTURES

There was a .packed house last evening to witness the current programme. The star picture was :i Kalem drama. entitled, "The Alan who Vanished." in

which Hobart's father dies, leaving him his fortune. Regina. Hobart's aunt learns that her husband will get the fortune should the boy die unmarried. With her husband's assistance she purchases a box of shells and loads them with deadly explosives. Some of these are placed in Hobart's hunting bag, just before lie leaves on a shooting tour. His shot gun explodes, injuring Hobart and wrecking his boat. Viola, his sweetheart, hears the explosion. and goes to the rescue. She brings him to tier home, where a physician orders him to be kept in bed for several; days. The doctor chances to examine one of the shells in Hobart's bag. and learns that it has been tampered with. Hobart's butler finds the wrecked boat, and the twisted gun. Believing the boy has been killed lie notifies Regina and her husband. They take possession, and Hobart learns that he has been the victim of foul play. He returns home after marrying Viola, who has nursed him. His uncle and aunt- are thunderstruck when they learn he is alive. By accident Viola gets jDOssession of the tin of shells Rpgina has left behind in her former home. Retina sees the box, and wresting it from Viola's hands locks her up in a steel vault in the library. She throws the keys of the vault and the shells into the lake. Hobart discovers Viola.'s predicament. Aid is summoned, and the steel door is blown open just in j time to save the life of the young wife. The' guilty couple ar/e confronted with the evidence of their g-ilt, and are led away under arrest. Tne picture is supported by a well chosen collection of choice kinegrams-

IMPERIAL PICTURES. There "was a large attendance at the Lyric Theatre last evening. when the varied and interesting collection of Imperial Pictures was thoroughly enjoyed. The series was notable for a clever Reliance drama, "His Uncle's. Heir" ; a charming Hep worth, comedy, "Deceivers Both"; and an unusually frivolous item by the Keystone Company that put the audience in high good humour. There were many other Rotable films from, the leading makers The series to-night will be headed by the popular star drama. "Silent Jim." a tale of the Canadian wilds, produced by the Eclair Co. A complete change will be presented at to-morrow' 6 sessions. The lucky ticket- competition, -which is now" a nightly institution, is arousing keen interest.
