SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

NEUDORF. The annual election of School Committee was held at the Public Schooi at 8 p.m. There were 12 householders present, Mr J. D. Beuke in the /rhair. The following, being the only persons nominated, were declared duly elected: Messrs G. Perry (chairman, secretary, and treasurer), JH. Beuke, D. Bensemann, A. Sixtus, W. G. Rose, C. Ewers, and W. Bensemann.

LOWER MOUTERE. Judging from the number present at the meeting of householders held in the Lower Moutere School on Monday evening it would seem that the householders in this district take .very little interest in educational matters. Only eight people thought the matter of sufficient importance to 'go to the trouble of attending the meeting. Of these five were retiring members of the School Committee, and one the master of the school, so that had' every householder present been willing to accept office there were only sufficient to form a committee, but as they were not prepared to follow the 6ft repeated custom of the district of nominating and electing themselves no committee was elected.

If parents -will continue to allow the education of their children to be anybody's business but their own, they have- only themselves to blame if men, who have served them for years to the best of their ability, resent- their total ind : fference and refuse to continue to discharge the duties of a position which at best often provides more kicks than halfpence. Before the meeting closed Mr Sanders, the master of the school, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the members of the Committee for their services during the past year, and referred to the harmony which had characterised all their meetings, and which hadi existed between them and the teaching ?taff. This resolution was supported by the two non-members of the committee pre:ent.

WAIMEA WEST. Mr A. B. Hall was voted to the chair at a small meeting of householders. The chairman commented upon the lack of interest in the matter in many districts, and said he thought that compulsory service on school committees should bo brought into force. The report and bal-ance-sheet of th? retiring committee were read and adopted, and a vote of thanks to' them was passed. For the ensuing year Messrs L. H. Palmer (chairman and secretary), Robert Price, D. Wilson. N. Tomlinson, T. Tomlinson. W. L. Palmer anel G. Walker were elected. A vote of thank* to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
